Essential Oil Products Have Become A "Green Assistant" For Animal Husbandry

As the concept of Natural farming grows, essential oil products are gradually penetrating every aspect of the livestock industry, with labels like "antibiotic alternatives" and "improving farming efficiency." From oregano essential oil to cinnamon essential oil, these products with their refreshing botanical fragrance are quietly transforming traditional farming practices.

Oregano essential oilis currently one of the most widely used essential oils in the livestock industry. Its core ingredients, carvacrol and Thymol, have a potent inhibitory effect on intestinal pathogens such as E. coli and Salmonella. Adding 0.1% oregano essential oil to broiler feed can reduce the number of harmful intestinal bacteria by over 30%, while also increasing daily weight gain and reducing feed-to-meat ratio. Pig farms are also using it: adding an appropriate amount of oregano essential oil to finishing pig feed can enhance the pigs' antioxidant capacity, reduce meat oxidation, and extend the pork's shelf life by 2-3 days.

Cinnamon essential oil, on the other hand, has gained popularity for its dual appetizing and antibacterial properties. Its unique aroma can stimulate the appetite of livestock and poultry. Adding a small amount of cinnamon essential oil to laying hen feed can increase feed intake by 5%-8% and egg production by approximately 3%. Furthermore, cinnamaldehyde inhibits mold growth in feed. Especially in hot and humid regions, adding cinnamon essential oil significantly reduces mold growth in feed, indirectly reducing the risk of mycotoxin poisoning in animals.

Lemongrass essential oil has become a "master of environmental management." Farmers dilute it and spray it in pens to mask odors. Its natural ingredients also repel mosquitoes and flies, reducing the spread of parasites. One dairy farm experimented with using lemongrass essential oil in milking parlors and found that cows' stress response was reduced, milk production steadily increased, and the somatic cell count in the milk decreased.

Furthermore, rosemary essential oil is used to improve meat quality due to its strong antioxidant properties. Adding tea tree oil to beef cattle in the later stages of fattening can reduce the rate of fat oxidation in muscle, making the beef more tender. Tea tree oil is also making a name for itself in aquaculture. Low concentrations of tea tree oil can inhibit pathogens on the surface of aquatic animals, reducing the incidence of diseases like gill rot.

Industry insiders say the promotion of these essential oil products not only aligns with the trend toward antibiotic-free farming but also brings livestock products closer to natural quality. As technology matures, more customized essential oil blends may emerge in the future, providing precise solutions for diverse farming scenarios.
